<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15711490382" title="Leaf Quilt 1 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img alt="Leaf Quilt 1" height="375" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5608/15711490382_3f98a0e69d.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
The pattern is called <a href="http://doyoueq.com/project_downloads/prismatic-plants/">Prismatic Plants</a> and it's a free download from <a href="http://doyoueq.com/">DoYouEQ.com</a>. You can use the project file in Quilt Design Wizard, EQ6, or EQ7. If you have one of these softwares and aren't taking advantage of the free monthly projects, you're really missing out! Heidi designs <a href="http://doyoueq.com/project_download_categories/qdw-downloads/">the cutest stuff</a>! <br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15525079690" title="Leaf Quilt 3 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img alt="Leaf Quilt 3" height="375" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7567/15525079690_b68c1d1083.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I opened the project file in EQ7 and made a couple of quick changes. I deleted some seam lines in the leaves because I planned to make each half of the leaf all the same fabric, and there was no reason to have that extra seam in the "body" of the leaf. Plus, I was foundation-piecing the leaves, so who cares about funky-shaped triangles!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwArzJzoEYGZqE-XmBokznKP_zsiR4fpPmkEjEch2HPl6zqfaJ4QPksnZMrj0LPlLkY4aUUqWo3vOlqt8TGGatb5IOK3b3yR1S7HNf2XM3RelNb3EmYpbEQbJTtG6CFvl888JGSugtMjg/s1600/BlockDrawing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwArzJzoEYGZqE-XmBokznKP_zsiR4fpPmkEjEch2HPl6zqfaJ4QPksnZMrj0LPlLkY4aUUqWo3vOlqt8TGGatb5IOK3b3yR1S7HNf2XM3RelNb3EmYpbEQbJTtG6CFvl888JGSugtMjg/s1600/BlockDrawing.jpg" height="250" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
And I choose to print the patterns at 7", rather than the original 8", because I wanted the quilt to fit in the wall space above our fireplace. I want to get some use out of this quilt before it's time for Christmas decorations, so the quilting will have to wait because it's going up on the wall today!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15708015731" title="Leaf Quilt 2 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img alt="Leaf Quilt 2" height="375" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3946/15708015731_1fca84429a.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
Choosing all the fabrics for these scrappy leaves was a fun challenge! Although I make such a mess when I'm working on a scrappy project like this (and I don't have the luxury of a dedicated sewing room anymore where I can just shut the door and walk away!). I liked using the fabric swatches on the download page as my guide--<br />

But I got two happy kids and that's all that matters. I give you Batgirl and Ash.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15071687764" title="Halloween 2014 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7517/15071687764_c7524e9951.jpg" width="500" height="396" alt="Halloween 2014"></a><br />
<br />
When we first started costume discussion K. wanted to be Queen Elsa (like 99% of the other little girls out there). The problem with that was that <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2014/08/birthday-dresses.html">I had already made her an Elsa costume</a> back in March for her birthday. And that costume was getting a little snug. It wasn't going to allow for the layers that are usually necessary for an Ohio Halloween (and they were definitely necessary this year!). As much as I liked how her original Elsa costume turned out, I really didn't want to make it again. <br />
<br />
So we perused Pinterest for some other costume ideas and she saw a Batgirl costume she loved. So I made a black tutu, slapped a Batman logo on a store-bought black t-shirt, and added a few other accessories. Easy-peasy!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvXgad5JyOuhbNg9BpzIOSFvPpp3clGc345FtmOpfv2f1vz6sW0OGV_Jzfn7nApFYKvv_U9hQzaqXc5pCsL5RCQ6wWtJWJcdcYSLkBs65FH4mC-LMDxSgNxam-vvLT7ziEM151C-fNNcI/s1600/batgirl.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvXgad5JyOuhbNg9BpzIOSFvPpp3clGc345FtmOpfv2f1vz6sW0OGV_Jzfn7nApFYKvv_U9hQzaqXc5pCsL5RCQ6wWtJWJcdcYSLkBs65FH4mC-LMDxSgNxam-vvLT7ziEM151C-fNNcI/s320/batgirl.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
A.'s costume turned out to be pretty easy too.... once we settled on what exactly he was going to be. He wanted a Pokemon costume, and kept choosing obscure characters you can't buy costumes for in the store (like Oshawott). I just didn't want to put all the time and effort into creating an Oshawott costume from scratch, just so it could be worn one night. Eventually he agreed to be the human from Pokemon- Ash Ketchum. Now there's something I can pull together in a reasonable amount of time!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15072273453" title="Halloween 2014 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3950/15072273453_39df673900.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Halloween 2014"></a><br />
<br />
There was a bit of sewing involved with this one. I franken-shirted the "jacket" together from two shirts and added some details with felt. I think it turned out pretty cute! And he got recognized much more this time around than he did last year when he was The Turtleman (from the show "Call of the Wildman").<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRGAJ6_Rprpqg36V_HYEYlQzN_-x64iVwYxtyUlTSHOIFfrCkmP7ba180zlOB66TJKX8vUHmEQ7cjVfH3ugzctT9dU1HoGliqCNZ8YnbCZwsdnC_OqXVi5mOTTGTH-KsNdHO7zjmGwEmU/s1600/halloween14.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRGAJ6_Rprpqg36V_HYEYlQzN_-x64iVwYxtyUlTSHOIFfrCkmP7ba180zlOB66TJKX8vUHmEQ7cjVfH3ugzctT9dU1HoGliqCNZ8YnbCZwsdnC_OqXVi5mOTTGTH-KsNdHO7zjmGwEmU/s320/halloween14.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Halloween night was cold and rainy here. K. only made it to a few houses before she was ready to head back and hand out candy from the warmth of Grandma and Grandpa's house. A. stuck it for quite a while and was well-rewarded for his effort. People were feeling quite generous since there weren't many trick-or-treaters making the rounds!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-20028242843756936412014-10-07T10:42:00.000-04:002014-10-07T10:42:24.748-04:00Late to the PartySo I finally caved and got myself an <a href="http://instagram.com/jennymakesstuff">Instagram </a>account.<br />

<br />
I'm still getting the hang of this thing and it's a little lonely over there now, with just a handful of followers. So if you're on IG please <a href="http://instagram.com/jennymakesstuff">follow me</a> so I don't feel like such a loser. ;)Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-67663325806995170692014-10-05T09:35:00.002-04:002014-10-05T09:57:14.094-04:00Desert Rose Dress 2I made another <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/sewing/clothing/desert-rose-dress--tunic/106563">Desert Rose Dress</a> for K. I told ya I love this pattern!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15260383749" title="desert rose dress 1 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3930/15260383749_5704275f55_z.jpg" width="427" height="640" alt="desert rose dress 1"></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2014/09/desert-rose-dress-tunic.html">Last time</a> I made the tunic length, solely because I didn't have enough of my skirt fabric to make the longer version. This time I bought the fabric specifically for this pattern, so I had enough for the dress.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15260545578" title="desert rose dress 2 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5601/15260545578_6fca2624a5.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="desert rose dress 2"></a><br />
<br />
I added pockets this time, which she loved!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15443976561" title="desert rose dress 3 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3932/15443976561_c7cb666202.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="desert rose dress 3"></a><br />
<br />
Flower buttons again, because they're cute!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15446801862" title="desert rose dress 4 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3929/15446801862_7c751c23e6.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="desert rose dress 4"></a><br />
<br />
I took these photos about a week ago, and the weather could not be more different today. Cold, blustery, and cloudy. I always think of fall as my favorite season, but oh am I sad to see summer leave this year!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-62564728363738804612014-09-27T18:01:00.000-04:002014-09-27T18:01:19.205-04:00McCall's M6923I made a dress. For myself.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15186555490" title="DressForMe3 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img alt="DressForMe3" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3854/15186555490_eabf2cc92f_z.jpg" width="363" /></a><br />
<br />
I know. Weird.<br />
<br />
I'm not even a "dress person." But I sooo would like to be. I guess I grew up a little bit tomboy and now when I wear a dress I feel like I'm over-dressed. Like dresses should be saved for special occasions. I'm trying to reset my thinking. Watch out co-workers-- I might be wearing a dress soon! And no, I'm not going to a funeral after work.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15373242065" title="DressForMe4 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img alt="DressForMe4" height="333" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3929/15373242065_ec5e34259c.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
The fabric is $3/yard clearance rack stuff, I didn't want to spend the big bucks on nice fabric in case this little dress experiment was a total failure. So, although i don't mind this fabric, it's definitely not my fav.<br />
<br />
I expected to be using a size or two larger than my store-bought clothes. The size I went with was 3 sizes larger than my norm, but all my measurements were pretty spot on with that size, so I went with it. <i>(Do you like how I'm not actually telling you what size I used? *wink*)</i> Well, the first bodice I made was comically large. It was pretty ridiculous. I tried taking it in more than an inch on each side seam, but was still way too big. And it did weird things to the fit. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15370084841" title="DressForMe1 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img alt="DressForMe1" height="333" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3899/15370084841_a6469ca61e.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
So I cut out another bodice two sizes smaller and it was a much better fit (thank goodness I bought extra clearance fabric!). It's still a bit gappy up by the neckline, but I <i>think </i>that's because I don't know how to make the proper pattern alterations for The Girls. I've read that patterns are made for b-cup sized woman, which I am definitely not. Perhaps I'll read up more on alterations before I try the next dress.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15370084551" title="DressForMe2 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img alt="DressForMe2" height="333" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3920/15370084551_27e1652b73.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>Trying to take photos of yourself is awful. Asking your husband to help you take photos may lead to divorce.</i></span><br />
<br />
All in all, I'd call this first dress a success. Now, the real test is whether or not I'll actually wear it!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-41535625835585813522014-09-11T08:57:00.000-04:002014-09-11T08:57:25.725-04:00Desert Rose Dress & Tunic<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15184024356" title="desert rose 1 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3903/15184024356_1d0447c203.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="desert rose 1"></a><br />
<br />
I fell in love with the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/sewing/clothing/desert-rose-dress--tunic/106563">Desert Rose Dress</a> pattern by <a href="http://cailamade.com/">CailaMade</a> as soon as I saw it. I first spotted it months ago on <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/273101164878376823/">Pinterest</a>, before it was released. So the fact that I actually remembered to go buy it a few weeks ago when it was made available shows you how much I liked it.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15020373710" title="desert rose 2 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5561/15020373710_1b4a5ddebe.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="desert rose 2"></a><br />
<br />
These Park Slope prints are among my all-time favorite fabrics. I started <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2011/06/ks-birthday-dress.html">K's birthday dress</a> tradition with a dress made from these two fabrics. I had to make the tunic length of the Desert Rose pattern because, sadly, I didn't have enough fabric to make the longer length. Not to worry— I'm well on my way to making a full length dress version in some other fabrics!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15020486748" title="desert rose 3 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3850/15020486748_af8c8b4b7a.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="desert rose 3"></a><br />
<br />
I'm a sucker for cute buttons (who isn't?). I love when I have the perfect buttons for a project just waiting in my stash.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15207059545" title="desert rose 4 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5595/15207059545_96f64fcd23.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="desert rose 4"></a><br />
<br />
Seriously, I couldn't love this pattern anymore. You should make one too!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-43202132540538947752014-09-04T10:29:00.000-04:002014-09-04T10:29:42.836-04:00Terrain Star Mini QuiltLittle bit by little bit, I'm whittling away at my beloved Terrain layer cake. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15137468032" title="TerrainStarMini1 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5585/15137468032_fbc4517d35.jpg" width="500" height="344" alt="TerrainStarMini1"></a><br />
<br />
Now that my youngest is in kindergarten I've got a few quiet hours to myself a couple days a week, so it felt like I whipped this up in no time! <br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15114843146" title="TerrainStarMini2 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3860/15114843146_abb99d8dfd.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="TerrainStarMini2"></a><br />
<br />
I had fun piecing together a back with the extra HSTs from the front. Sometimes it's hard to decide if I like the front or the back better! <br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15137467372" title="TerrainStarMini3 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3844/15137467372_4495b71906.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="TerrainStarMini3"></a><br />
<br />
With the last few quilts I've made I've been in a hurry to finish and opted to machine stitch the binding onto the front of the quilt. With this one, I went the old fashioned route and hand stitched it to the back. I like the results so much better! I've got to remember that it's worth taking your time with the finishing.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14951295078" title="TerrainStarMini4 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5585/14951295078_82f5b727b2.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="TerrainStarMini4"></a><br />
<br />
I made this quilt as a gift for our realtor who helped us sell our old house and find a new one this past spring. We've been in the new house almost 3 months now (how can that be?!), so I've been a bit slow in thanking her. But I hope she likes it nonetheless.Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-68703662561359687052014-08-31T22:33:00.000-04:002014-08-31T22:33:21.407-04:00City Gym ShortsJust like everyone else on the interwebs, I've made some <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/2014/07/24/corinnes-thread-city-gym-shorts-for-all-ages/">City Gym Shorts</a>. I stopped myself at two pairs. But these shorts are so easy to whip up, they could be very addictive!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15100743335" title="city gym shorts 1 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3862/15100743335_cf407d4d90.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="city gym shorts 1"></a><br />
<br />
For this first pair I used some extra bias tape I had left over from another project, so it's a little wider than called for. I don't have one of the fancy bias tape makers, so having some already pressed tape ready to go really saved some time.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/15097741761" title="city gym shorts 2 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5564/15097741761_088a3ed6ab.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="city gym shorts 2"></a><br />
<br />
The umbrella fabric in this second pair is from a fat quarter pack of Riley Blake fabric I found at Tuesday Morning for a steal. Who knew they carried quilt shop quality fabric?<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14914188437" title="city gym shorts 3 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5573/14914188437_4699cb5415.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="city gym shorts 3"></a><br />
<br />
I gave K a couple of choices for the back fabric and she chose this Park Slope print because her favorite color, <i>right now</i>, is "really dark pink". You'll see more of this fabric in another project soon!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14914117000" title="city gym shorts 4 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3869/14914117000_ba449e9ae4.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="city gym shorts 4"></a>Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-77410950837296255722014-08-07T21:26:00.000-04:002014-08-07T21:26:09.565-04:00Birthday DressesWay back in March, this girl turned 5.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14853157295" title="5thBday1 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5582/14853157295_4d2036da0c.jpg" width="432" height="346" alt="5thBday1"></a><br />
<br />
And even though it was quite a messy time in our lives, I still managed to continue my tradition of making her birthday dress. (See previous birthday dresses here: <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2011/06/ks-birthday-dress.html">Two</a>, <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2012/03/third-birthday-dress.html">Three</a>, and <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2013/04/oliver-s-family-reunion-dress.html">Four</a>)<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14666552199" title="5thBday2 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5595/14666552199_8ab83d62cc_z.jpg" width="427" height="640" alt="5thBday2"></a><br />
<br />
I had originally planned to use the Oliver + S Ice Cream Dress pattern, but I decided I was too pressed for time and needed to make something more simple. Thanks to Pinterest, this <a href="http://icandy-handmade.com/2012/02/tutorial-and-pattern-jcrew-knockoff.html">Striped Relay Dress from iCandy-Handmade</a> was floating around in my mind and was just the quick sew I needed.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14853157115" title="5thBday3 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3865/14853157115_9863e9c32b_z.jpg" width="427" height="640" alt="5thBday3"></a><br />
<br />
This was the first time I made her a dress out of knit fabric and she absolutely LOVED it! Every time she wears it she talks about how comfy it is. My fear of knits is slowly fading. I've made her a couple of <a href="http://seekatesew.bigcartel.com/product/recess-raglan-pdf-pattern-18m-to-8">Recess Raglan</a> t-shirts in knit fabrics too. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to showing those off here too. :)<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14850715804" title="5thBday4 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3891/14850715804_8df1860deb_z.jpg" width="427" height="640" alt="5thBday4"></a><br />
<br />
I paired it with a navy blue cardigan from Target. Coral + Navy = Love.<br />
<br />
And, like every other little girl in the world, she loves the movie Frozen. Back at the time of her birthday, we were deep in Frozen obsession mode and she was asking to watch the movie every day. So I made her a Queen Elsa dress as a gift.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14832896646" title="Frozen_Elsa1 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3856/14832896646_dae996f2b5_z.jpg" width="427" height="640" alt="Frozen_Elsa1"></a><br />
<br />
I made it very similarly to how I made her <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2011/10/halloween.html">princess Halloween costume</a> a couple years ago. The girl loves to play dress-up and that costume is still in heavy dress-up rotation. Even though it's getting a bit small, and to be honest, a bit shabby looking. But, oh, does it make my heart happy that she loves to wear something I made for her so much that it's getting worn out.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14832895336" title="Frozen_Elsa3 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3891/14832895336_499506f3ba_z.jpg" width="427" height="640" alt="Frozen_Elsa3"></a><br />
<br />
I really should make her a princess dress in every color. She's just so darn cute when she's in dress-up mode.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14852829211" title="Frozen_Elsa2 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5588/14852829211_541d7cc89f_z.jpg" width="427" height="640" alt="Frozen_Elsa2"></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14669364957" title="Frozen_Elsa4 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3912/14669364957_38c02c04cb_z.jpg" width="427" height="640" alt="Frozen_Elsa4"></a>Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-3754090092398631622014-07-24T10:44:00.000-04:002014-07-24T10:51:44.057-04:00BackIt's like the new thing in blogging to not post for months at a time now, right? I'm just trying to fit in with the cool kids.<br />
<br />
Really, though, we've had a very stressful few months for our family. It involved finding our "dream house", and then losing it. All because the bank made a mistake and refused to correct it. I can't put into words (and I don't know that I want to), how absolutely frustrating and heartbreaking those couple months were for us. I lost 10 pounds during those weeks-- it's called "The Stress of Fighting with a Bank" diet. I don't recommend it.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14547196887" title="house zipper pouch 1 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img alt="house zipper pouch 1" height="375" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3859/14547196887_6f14d8d2d3.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14547197037" title="house zipper pouch 2 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img alt="house zipper pouch 2" height="375" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3838/14547197037_cb1df54900.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>House zipper pouch. Original design.</i></span><br />
<br />
BUT the story eventually has a happy ending. We sold the old house and found another house, ironically on the same street as the "dream house". We're all moved in and LOVING being back out in the country. Didn't realize how much I missed the country life! <br />
The sewing didn't totally stop during those rough months, but the energy to photograph and write about it did. Plus, it's difficult to get into a sewing project when you have to constantly keep your home in "show-able" condition for potential buyers. <br />
<br />

<br />
Now that we're feeling settled I'm hoping to get back to my poor neglected blog. But there's been a shift in the blogging world, hasn't there? People just aren't posting like they used to. Seems like more and more people are making the switch to Instagram. I've thought about making the jump, but I think of this blog as my way of documenting my projects. And how much can you "document" in a few words? <br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/14753551533" title="2 Sided Zip Pouch 1 by Jenny, on Flickr"><img alt="2 Sided Zip Pouch 1" height="375" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5569/14753551533_e005a81a50.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />

<br />
So I've sprinkled in photos of some of the little projects I've done over the past few months. I plan to share a couple of the more "significant" projects in their own posts. It's hard to get back into blogging after you've taken an extended break (this post has been sitting in my Drafts for a couple of weeks!). Wish me luck. :)<br />

Among other small projects, I've used the fabrics for a dresden plate quilt and my recently finished <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2014/01/fighting-winter-blues.html">Sprocket Pillow</a>. That leaves me with quite a few funky-shaped scraps and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to do some improv piecing.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12199023744/" title="improv block by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7345/12199023744_70bfd0ff10.jpg" width="417" height="500" alt="improv block"></a><br />
<br />
I know I've still kept my lines nice and straight, but there was no plan to the design. Just randomly added scraps as I went. I'm not quite sure what I'll do with it... maybe another pillow to match the Sprocket?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12199232366/" title="Kaffe QST 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5472/12199232366_e0afd2b575.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="Kaffe QST 1"></a><br />
<br />
I've also been making little quarter square triangles with some Kaffe Fassett fabric. I'm not usually drawn to these fabrics, but I love the quilt on the cover of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Material-Obsession-Modern-Quilts-Traditional/dp/1584798807/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1390963116&sr=1-3&keywords=material+obsession">Material Obsession 2</a>, so I thought I'd try out using these fabs in little patches. My favorite fabric pairing is there on top.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12198861333/" title="Kaffe QST 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2852/12198861333_252d3202fd.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Kaffe QST 2"></a><br />
<br />
I started out with 3" squares, so when I trim them down they'll be 1.5". Tiny!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-281457018201133922014-01-28T12:29:00.000-05:002014-01-28T12:29:36.977-05:00More KnittingBecause what else can you do when it's -3 degrees?<br />
<br />
I've knit both of these patterns several times before. They are my go-to's when I just want to knit something and not have to think about it too much. First up, my favorite basic hat pattern: the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/kims-hats">Kim's Hats pattern</a> from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12191402963/" title="basic hat 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2880/12191402963_86b430ef50.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="basic hat 1"></a><br />
<br />
I used Martha Stewart Extra Soft Wool Blend yarn in Lilac. I don't know if these photos do it justice, but it's a lovely grey-purple. I love this yarn because it's soft and priced for a knitter on a budget, like me! I've used this yarn for a <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2013/01/sophia-cowl.html">Sophia Cowl</a> and a <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2013/01/brattleboro-hat.html">Brattleboro Hat</a>. It knits up beautifully.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12191579894/" title="basic hat 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7299/12191579894_b3ce0feb2b.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="basic hat 2"></a><br />
<br />
It's big on her, but she makes a much better model than me:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12191401773/" title="basic hat 3 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7315/12191401773_1ebeff8215.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="basic hat 3"></a><br />
<br />
Next up, another <a href="http://www.cometosilver.com/patterns/palindrome.htm">Palindrome Scarf</a>. Cables look fancy, but they're really not difficult. If you want to give cables a try, this is the pattern to knit.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12191783465/" title="palindrome scarf 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5523/12191783465_5071e1dba6.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="palindrome scarf 1"></a><br />
<br />
I love the thick, squishy fabric created by the cables. For this one I used Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable in color Winery.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12192215424/" title="palindrome scarf 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3782/12192215424_d7c209662e.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="palindrome scarf 2"></a>Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-21961841444655355652014-01-23T13:52:00.000-05:002014-01-23T14:00:22.003-05:00Fighting the Winter Blues......with bright, pretty fabrics!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12105286015/" title="sprocket pillow 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5482/12105286015_89f01116f8.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="sprocket pillow 1"></a><br />
<br />
This ridiculously cold winter has been a tad soul-crushing. Maybe I'm being over-dramatic, but I've never dreamed of moving south more than I have in the last month. So something happy and bright was in order! I grabbed some of my favorite fabrics and made a Sprocket Pillow using <a href="http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2011/03/tutorial-sprocket-pillows.html">Cluck Cluck Sew's tutorial</a>. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12105671664/" title="sprocket pillow 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7345/12105671664_2dcd14914e.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="sprocket pillow 2"></a><br />
<br />
Fabrics are from Kate Spain's Terrain collection and they just make me happy to look at them. I'm a *bit* of a Kate Spain fan (see my two favorite Christmas quilts <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2013/12/christmas-star-quilt.html">here </a>and <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2011/07/christmas-in-july.html">here</a>!). <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12105671024/" title="sprocket pillow 3 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7362/12105671024_72b5bde28f.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="sprocket pillow 3"></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12105670724/" title="sprocket pillow 4 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3709/12105670724_1b7c595cfc.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="sprocket pillow 4"></a><br />
<br />
Okay, so maybe I've even got a Kate Spain nail file. :)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12105287065/" title="kate spain file by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7379/12105287065_fd4df34c95.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="kate spain file"></a><br />
<br />
And on the back... <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12105673524/" title="sprocket pillow back by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3790/12105673524_25a2704523.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="sprocket pillow back"></a><br />
<br />
And in other pretty fabric news, I visited my local quilt shop this weekend and made a few purchases (yay for Christmas gift certificates!)...<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/12105954886/" title="new fabs by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5502/12105954886_8c338f38e0.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="new fabs"></a><br />
<br />
I was looking for fabric for K's birthday dress and couldn't decide between these two prints, so I got them both! And, yes, that bottom fab is another Kate Spain fabric. Her birthday isn't until March, but <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2013/04/oliver-s-family-reunion-dress.html">last year</a> I was still sewing buttons on her dress an hour before the party, so I'm trying to think ahead!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-16065071468261574922014-01-14T17:49:00.000-05:002014-01-14T17:49:24.785-05:00Boxy PouchI was looking for a quick-finish project this weekend and a search of my <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/jennymakesstuff/boards/">Pinterest boards</a> led me to this <a href="http://www.sochickhandbags.blogspot.com.es/2011/11/boxie-pouch-tutorial.html">Boxy Pouch</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11953632945/" title="boxy pouch 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5529/11953632945_f031054eb7.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="boxy pouch 1"></a><br />
<br />
I think I must have some sort of winter-induced brain fog going on, because I had to use the seam ripper on this little project more times than I care to count. Maybe that's why I chose this summery fabric-- I'm subconsciously counting down the days until spring!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11953925953/" title="boxy pouch 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3759/11953925953_5c3b2c45f6.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="boxy pouch 2"></a><br />
<br />
Instead of making fabric tabs, I used a flowery grosgrain ribbon for the zipper pulls and I added a handle for easier carrying.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11953925423/" title="boxy pouch 3 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5537/11953925423_dcee01c560.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="boxy pouch 3"></a><br />
<br />
It's a great size to hold a small knitting project. I'm well on my way to finishing <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2013/02/palindrome-scarf.html">another Palindrome scarf</a>!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11953631635/" title="boxy pouch 4 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7327/11953631635_d2ab9bd72b.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="boxy pouch 4"></a><br />
<br />
The boxy shape makes it easily collapsible. It's pretty cute folded flat too! Next time I think I'll make it a bit smaller in laminate fabric for a make-up pouch.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11954463966/" title="boxy pouch 5 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3825/11954463966_ca69768399.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="boxy pouch 5"></a>Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-39279034959779542842014-01-09T22:13:00.000-05:002014-01-09T22:13:36.116-05:00Wisp Scarf<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11861456796/" title="wisp scarf 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2845/11861456796_1dd037dafb.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="wisp scarf 1"></a><br />
<br />
We've been under house arrest by the Polar! Vortex! that hit our area this past week so I've had plenty of time to knit. Extreme weather, or not, January always seems to be when the knitting bug hits me again. The post-holiday lull and cold temps just make me want to cuddle up on the couch with some yarn. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11860920163/" title="wisp scarf 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3716/11860920163_1bf3c6b637.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="wisp scarf 2"></a><br />
<br />
The yarn is Kidsilk Haze by Rowan and I feel so fancy for having made something with it! It's been languishing in my yarn stash for quite some time, originally purchased with a capelet pattern in mind. But after working on the capelet for quite a while, I realized that I'm not a "capelet person" and there was no way I was ever going to wear it. So it was frogged and put away until a more suitable project came along. After searching on Ravelry, I settled on the <a href="http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer07/PATTwisp.html">Wisp scarf</a> and whipped it up in a few days.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11861064814/" title="wisp scarf 4 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2885/11861064814_5faf514070.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="wisp scarf 4"></a><br />
<br />
It's a tad fussy to work with and I had a false start working with metal needles. But I started fresh with a wooden set and I didn't have so many problems with the stitches slipping off the needles.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11860627765/" title="wisp scarf 5 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7414/11860627765_0df42136ca.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="wisp scarf 5"></a><br />
<br />
In the 10+ years that I've been knitting, this is the first time I think I've properly wet blocked a finished pieced. What a difference in made in bringing out the lace. Perhaps I should follow the rules more often!<br />
<br />

<br />
A handful of kitchen towels, made using <a href="http://hobbydistoffa-hdc.blogspot.it/2013/02/continuiamo-con-la-cucina.html">this tutorial</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11674176495/" title="xmas presents 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7364/11674176495_58acc7a2cf.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="xmas presents 1"></a><br />
<br />
I made my own fabric covered buttons too!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11674542754/" title="xmas presents 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7349/11674542754_430e975041.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="xmas presents 2"></a><br />
<br />
A couple of scarves, one sewn and one knit.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11674959726/" title="xmas presents 3 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2845/11674959726_1dcc723d39.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="xmas presents 3"></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11674959076/" title="xmas presents 4 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5533/11674959076_91af74daa2.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="xmas presents 4"></a><br />
<br />
And one block that never materialized into a finished gift! :)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11674177125/" title="xmas presents 5 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3805/11674177125_e77d87c261.jpg" width="417" height="500" alt="xmas presents 5"></a><br />
<br />
Wishing you all a happy 2014!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-84876506779120714602013-12-18T12:41:00.000-05:002013-12-18T18:43:48.831-05:00Christmas Star QuiltI did it! I finished <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2013/11/christmas-star-block.html">this quilt</a> before Christmas!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11437876703/" title="Christmas Star Quilt 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3786/11437876703_20768f8278.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Christmas Star Quilt 1"></a><br />
<br />
I finished it several days ago, but the weather has been so overcast and gloomy lately on the days that I've been off work, I haven't wanted to take pictures. The only reason I was able to take photos today is because I'm home with a sick kid sleeping on the couch. I tricked the sun- it knew I wasn't supposed to be home today!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11437776516/" title="Christmas Star Quilt 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5498/11437776516_282929c8fe.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Christmas Star Quilt 2"></a><br />
<br />
Lots of straight line quilting, because I still keep talking myself out of free motion quilting on a "real" project. Those practice sandwiches are piling up though!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11437877173/" title="Christmas Star Quilt 3 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2877/11437877173_54027af84a.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Christmas Star Quilt 3"></a><br />
<br />
Now it's back to the mad rush of finishing the handmade gifts I have planned! The list keeps getting "amended" each day we get closer to Christmas... Happy Holidays Everyone!<br />
<br />

Yikes.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11323403586/" title="xmas wreath mini quilt 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3764/11323403586_ba216d8975.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="xmas wreath mini quilt 1"></a><br />
<br />
I finished this wreath block into a mini quilt and gave it to my mom as an early Christmas gift. The quilted circles gave it a modern feel that I hadn't intended, but I like it just the same!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11323403286/" title="xmas wreath mini quilt 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2865/11323403286_fc22ebd4b6.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="xmas wreath mini quilt 2"></a><br />
<br />
You can find the pattern <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/quilting/other/christmas-robin-paper-pieced-pattern/73860">here</a>.<br />
<br />
And I'm quite close to finishing up my Christmas Star quilt. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/11330755396/" title="Christmas Star Quilt_wip by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5496/11330755396_f54e3cbf3c.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Christmas Star Quilt_wip"></a><br />
<br />
I went with <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2013/11/christmas-star-block.html">option A</a>, if anyone's keeping track. ;) I hope to finish it up in the next day or two, otherwise I'll barely have time hang it up before Christmas has come and gone!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-27426517071402985722013-11-19T17:42:00.000-05:002013-11-19T17:42:01.633-05:00Christmas Star BlockI made this star block over the weekend and just love it!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10951737405/" title="Christmas Star Block by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7338/10951737405_177ccf7f58.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Christmas Star Block"></a><br />
<br />
If I had all the time in the world, I'd love to make a full-size quilt of these stars. But I'm short on time <i>and</i> fabric, as I'm using the leftovers from the advent quilt I made a few years ago. The fabric is from Kate Spain's 12 Days of Christmas collection. I just love her holiday fabrics! I've been hanging on to a layer cake of her Joy collection too, just waiting for the right project to come along.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/5978005189/" title="Countdown to Christmas quilt 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6028/5978005189_f6e2f4d0b9.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="Countdown to Christmas quilt 2"></a><br />
<br />
<i>The above quilt is a pattern I designed for work, and you can <a href="http://doyoueq.com/project_downloads/countdown-to-christmas-advent-quilt/">download it for free here</a>.</i><br />
<br />
So now I'm trying to decide what to add to this block to make it into a decent wallhanging size. Here are a few options I've mocked up in EQ7:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10951738045/" title="Christmas Star Block_variations by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3673/10951738045_acf1828b9b.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Christmas Star Block_variations"></a><br />
<br />
I'm leaning towards A... what's your pick?Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-82874571288223222872013-11-12T13:57:00.000-05:002013-11-12T13:57:24.145-05:00Another Speech BubbleSharing another block from my <a href="https://www.myeqboutique.com/Shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=2161">Speech Bubbles</a> collection at My EQ Boutique. I think the "official" name of this block is Question Speech Bubble, but when I look at this block in my head I'm thinking <i>"HUH?"</i><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10823745225/" title="Huh? Speech Bubble by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3793/10823745225_4c07ed71c5.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="Huh? Speech Bubble"></a><br />
<br />
I made this block 12" x 12", but the best part of My EQ Boutique is that you can print the patterns you purchase at any size you like! Templates, foundation patterns, rotary cutting charts- you name it! Just type in your finished size and the program adds the seam allowance for you.<br />
<br />
There's a sale going on at My EQ Boutique today only-- spend $30, get 30% off with code <b>MYEQB30</b>. <a href="https://www.myeqboutique.com">Go check it out!</a>Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-91473864181114401732013-11-07T16:25:00.000-05:002013-11-07T19:45:24.380-05:00In a Paper Piecing MoodAfter all the garment sewing of Kids Clothes Week, I was ready to jump back into some quilting! Paper piecing is definitely my fav, so I whipped up a couple more blocks from my <a href="https://www.myeqboutique.com/Shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=2161&fromcategory=180">Speech Bubbles collection</a>:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10731526834/" title="heart speech bubble 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3672/10731526834_baae673ed1.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="heart speech bubble 1"></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10731528024/" title="heart speech bubble 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3805/10731528024_b5a92eda93.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="heart speech bubble 2"></a><br />
<br />
I think these two are destined to become a pillow. It's a little conversation-- <i>"love you!"</i> and <i>"love you too!"</i> :)<br />
<br />
And as soon as I saw <a href="http://quietplay.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/wip-wed-garden-in-making.html">this block</a> on <a href="http://quietplay.blogspot.com.au/">Quiet Play</a>, I knew I had to add it to my "to sew" list! I hate how the all the retail places start bombarding you with Christmas stuff earlier and earlier-- makes ya completely sick of the holiday by the time it actually gets here. But I will allow it for sewing/crafting purposes. ;) Ya gotta have time to make the Christmas stuff! So here it is, my first official Christmas sew of the season:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10731481034/" title="xmas wreath block 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2887/10731481034_2b508cb946.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="xmas wreath block 1"></a><br />
<br />
I think it was this little bird that got me hooked. Isn't she cute? I only wish I had used a different fabric for her belly. It is a different white-on-white fabric from the background snowflake fabric, but I don't think you can see that very well. Ah, live and learn!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10731474046/" title="xmas wreath block 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5488/10731474046_a40bc9c444.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="xmas wreath block 2"></a><br />
<br />
Back in June I went to the Chicago Quilt Festival for work, and while I was there I "splurged" on a <a href="http://www.justcurves.biz/index.htm">Curve Master presser foot</a>. They were also selling these <a href="http://www.justcurves.biz/shop/Sewing-Tools--Curve-Master-Bent-tip-Tweezers-Seam-Roller-Adapters/p/Seam-Roller.htm">wooden seam rollers</a>, so I got one of those too. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10731721053/" title="seam roller by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3798/10731721053_ca9592d789.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="seam roller"></a><br />
<br />
I haven't played with the presser foot much, but I've used the seam roller and it's perfect for "pressing" the seams in paper pieced blocks! I love not having to walk across the room to my ironing board after every little seam. If you're a paper piecer, I highly recommend! <br />
<br />
For the first time, I'm linking up with:<br />
<br />
<div align="center"><a href="http://quietplay.blogspot.com.au/p/paper-piecing-party.html" title="Paper Piecing Party" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a545/QuietPlay/756a4a42-bdb4-402e-bfbb-1e64ce533a9a_zpscd378c07.jpg" alt="Paper Piecing Party" style="border:none;" /></a></div>Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-19288609760741443022013-10-27T20:18:00.001-04:002013-10-27T20:18:28.085-04:00KCW: Basic Pocket PantsIt seems the sewing gods did not want me to participate in KCW this week. After an early victory with the <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2013/10/kcw-hosh-pants.html">Hosh Pants</a>, my sewing quickly went downhill. I spent most of the week working on the Oliver + S Music Class Blouse (I made the <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2012/09/music-class-skirt.html">Music Class Skirt</a> last fall, a great success!). I LOVE O + S patterns, but I made all the wrong choices with this one. The last straw came when I went to attach the collar and the notches were totally off, which is probably the result of using a french seam finish that threw off my 1/2" seam allowance. Now I have an almost-complete shirt and a collar with no hope of fitting.... *sad face*<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10525152085/" title="basic pocket pants 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2820/10525152085_a538c1bec1.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="basic pocket pants 1"></a><br />
<br />
SO... I put that failure away for now and choose to move on to a nice, easy pair of pajama pants. I used the Basic Pocket Pants pattern from the book Growing Up Sew Liberated and a super cute Hello Kitty flannel.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10525151135/" title="basic pocket pants 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7365/10525151135_2d648cd6a9.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="basic pocket pants 2"></a><br />
<br />
They took a little more time than the trace-and-sew kind of pajama pants I usually make for the kiddos, but I love the little details to this pattern! The contrasting cuffs, binding, and waistband are cute, and K absolutely loves the pockets! When she first saw the pants she exclaimed "THEY HAVE POCKETS?! For all my STUFF!"<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10525152825/" title="basic pocket pants 4 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3818/10525152825_a2498324ae.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="basic pocket pants 4"></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10525150495/" title="basic pocket pants 3 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3766/10525150495_10184e49bc.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="basic pocket pants 3"></a><br />
<br />
I think I've got the clothes sewing out of my system for a while now, and I'm ready to get back to quilting and patchwork. I've got a few items to check off my to do list and then it's on to Christmas gift sewing! How did you do with your KCW sewing?Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-28551365063318639182013-10-22T21:52:00.001-04:002013-10-22T21:52:38.320-04:00KCW: Hosh PantsI finished my first piece for <a href="http://www.kidsclothesweek.com/">Kids Clothes Week</a> and it's only Tuesday! It's the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/123231003/hosh-pants-pdf-digital-sewing-pattern">Hosh Pants pattern</a> from <a href="http://emmyloubeedoo.blogspot.com/">LouBeeClothing</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10431888876/" title="Hosh Pants 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7362/10431888876_c1d5e63c46.jpg" width="417" height="500" alt="Hosh Pants 1"></a><br />
<br />
This is the first official pants pattern I've ever sewn (I don't count all the flannel jammie pants I've made since those have all been of the trace-a-pair-of-existing-pants variety). I'm really happy with how they turned out and I'll definitely be using this pattern again. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10431901885/" title="Hosh Pants 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7417/10431901885_e029998411.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Hosh Pants 2"></a><br />
<br />
I was a little nervous with the sizing because K's measurements didn't line up well with any of the sizes. I decided to go with the 5T size. They're a tad big in the waist, but that's okay because one of the coolest features of this pattern is the adjustable waist! It uses buttonhole elastic like a lot of store-bought pants and I just love it! I'll definitely be using this technique for future pants construction. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10432035583/" title="Hosh Pants 3 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5530/10432035583_17dbec673d.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Hosh Pants 3"></a><br />
<br />
The pattern suggests hemming the pants before seeing them together, but because I was a little iffy on the sizing, I decided to leave the hemming until the end when I could give them a test fit. The original hem ended up being fine, and it wasn't too hard to work in that small leg opening either. I can't remember where I read this, but did you know that when working in a small area like that, it's easier to sew with your pressed foot on the inside?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10432035153/" title="Hosh Pants 4 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5493/10432035153_50f79db231.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Hosh Pants 4"></a><br />
<br />
I used a printed stretch denim I found at Joann's. I was hoping to find some stretch denim in some fun solid colors, but the selection was pretty limited (and kinda pricey too!). It's not something I would use for pants for myself, but this girl knows how to work it.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10431865694/" title="Hosh Pants 5 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3821/10431865694_b58732e5e0.jpg" width="417" height="500" alt="Hosh Pants 5"></a><br />
<br />
She didn't really have any shirts to go with these pants, but I plan to remedy that later this week!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-58356819526031803812013-10-20T21:39:00.000-04:002013-10-20T21:39:30.729-04:00Doc McStuffins CostumeAfter listing off at least 20 different things she wanted to be for Halloween over the past month, K finally settled on Doc McStuffins. I wasn't about to pay $30+ for the poorly-made version available in stores. K loves to play dress-up (her <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2011/10/halloween.html">princess</a> and <a href="http://jennymakesstuff.blogspot.com/2012/10/halloween-2012-my-little-mermaid.html">mermaid</a> costumes are still worn quite frequently), and I know those cheap, paper-thin costumes won't hold up to her wear and tear.<br />
<br />
Plus, the best part of Halloween is getting to make the costumes, right?!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10393507405/" title="doc mcstuffins 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3685/10393507405_0f81798d46.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="doc mcstuffins 1"></a><br />
<br />
I was able to pull this together for less than $5! Here are the materials I used: two t-shirts I found for $1 each, an old button-down shirt from my closet, and a long-sleeve shirt K already had.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10393504664/" title="doc mcstuffins 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5483/10393504664_40b1a36b3c.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="doc mcstuffins 2"></a><br />
<br />
I used the pink t-shirt to make a simple skirt. Just cut it to length, made an elastic casing, and used the existing hem. Doesn't get much easier than that!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10393506085/" title="doc mcstuffins 3 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5513/10393506085_4eb5b5f9d5.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="doc mcstuffins 3"></a><br />
<br />
I cut strips from the purple t-shirt and used a zig-zag stitch to sew them onto the long-sleeve shirt.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10393537076/" title="doc mcstuffins 4 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7291/10393537076_98747c4ccf.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="doc mcstuffins 4"></a><br />
<br />
For the doctor's coat, I hemmed up the sleeves and bottom, and added pockets to the front. I attempted to take up the shoulders so it didn't look so droopy on her, but after some fussing with it I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. It is just a Halloween costume, after all. ;)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10393686633/" title="doc mcstuffins 5 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3718/10393686633_455f66a0b6.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="doc mcstuffins 5"></a><br />
<br />
She already had the "official" Doc McStuffins bag and accessories (birthday gifts!), so she's all set!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10393504725/" title="doc mcstuffins 6 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7391/10393504725_fe8d208f7a.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="doc mcstuffins 6"></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/10393539656/" title="doc mcstuffins 7 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3751/10393539656_c6396150b8.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="doc mcstuffins 7"></a><br />
<br />
And since I finished this costume with time to spare before Halloween, I can concentrate on <a href="http://www.kidsclothesweek.com/">Kids Clothes Week</a>! I'm hoping to make 2-3 new garments this week-- wish me luck!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055182100716476668.post-35504664364179334032013-09-25T05:16:00.000-04:002013-09-25T05:16:36.789-04:00WIP Wednesday - 9/25/13I finally finished <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/8427918019/">this quilt top</a> so now I'm working on piecing together a back from the left over bits and pieces I have from the front. I had a handful of HSTs and I used up what little I had left of the khaki solid to make a few more. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/9926442854/" title="mm quilt back 1 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3688/9926442854_3ae7f4f70a.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="mm quilt back 1"></a><br />
<br />
I just love stars. I don't know why I don't make more of them!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/9926540313/" title="mm quilt back 2 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3743/9926540313_a51c5b4ef5.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="mm quilt back 2"></a><br />
<br />
In some ways I enjoy putting together a back more than the front. I like the improv aspect and maybe there's less pressure to get it "just right" since its the back. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennymakesstuff/9926380985/" title="mm quilt back 3 by jenny makes stuff, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2827/9926380985_6b35f5f297.jpg" width="500" height="417" alt="mm quilt back 3"></a><br />
<br />
Hope to be quilting soon!Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07725733393795896113noreply@blogger.com7
