Fat Quarterly – Geared Up Robot

See this cute little guy? I designed him and the pattern is in the newest issue of Fat Quarterly!

Geared Up Robot

Sometimes I'm lucky enough to do some sewing for my day job and this is something I created for Electric Quilt, using EQ7 (it's not just for quilts!).

The issue is all about paper, and foundation piecing (aka paper piecing) is a technique I love to use. All the parts of the robot are paper-pieced: arms, legs, head, and body. Very easy with super cute results! My favorite part? Those flying geese arms and legs!

So, go check out the newest issue of Fat Quarterly and, if you have EQ7, download the project file here!

  1. Love the way you've meshed robotics and traditional quilting blocks--so imaginative!

  2. How cute is this little robot! I had no idea you could design things other than quilts with EQ7. Did you design the pieces, like his head, arms, legs and tummy separately? I've been debating whether or not to buy EQ7. But now I see that there are so many possibilities with it. It seems like there really is no question about if I should buy it, but rather when.

  4. I've just finished my own Geared Up Robot from Fat Quarterly 8. I love those flying geese limbs too, so cute. I'm hoping to make a whole robot family. Thanks for the great pattern!
